IRON PATRIOT SPOTTED ON THE SET OF IRON MAN 3

Who is IRON PATRIOT?

Tony Stark battling terrorists who unleash a nanotechnology virus known (in the comics) as “Extremis” – could be sowing seeds of the larger Marvel movie universe that mirror Marvel Comics events of the last decade, such as “Secret Invasion.” In the comics, after “Secret Invasion” – in which the shape-shifting Skrull aliens launch a covert invasion of Earth – came “Dark Reign,” a story in which Spider-Man villain Norman Osborn became a national hero after seemingly ending the Skrull invasion, and used his new authority to re-brand super villains as superheroes, while making superheroes into enemies of society.

One of the best elements of  the “Dark Reign” saga was the series Dark Avengers by Ultimate Spider-Man writer Brian Michael Bendis. In the series Norman Osborn took noted Marvel supervillains and had them masquerade as The Avengers – with Osborn himself donning an old Iron Man suit (repainted as an American flag) and going by the moniker of… The Iron Patriot.

TRIVIA: NORMAN OSBORN was THE GREEN GOBLIN in SPIDERMAN series.

The Iron Patriot armor was spotted on set for ‘Iron Man 3’, but since Sony owns all movie rights to Spider-Man characters, who will be under the helmet? After you find out the answer by clicking through, be assured that the rest of us are confused too.

I know everyone assumes the armor is Iron Patriot but since IP is Norman Osborn who’s in the Spider-Man movies and owned by Sony wouldn’t it make more sense for this for armor to be Captain America’s armor as seen in What If? Civil War. I mean it looks more like Iron Patriot, that I admit but I don’t see how that works as a story. Norman Osborn shows up out of nowhere and becomes Iron Patriot? I’ll pass on that. I’d much rather see Norman Osborn as Green Goblin first then Secret Invasion/some event that could lead to Dark Avengers

So I’ve seen a lot of confusion on here as to who exactly Iron Patriot is in the MCU. Most people know that, in the comics, he’s Norman Osborn, aka the Green Goblin and a member of the Dark Avengers and Cabal.

A lot of people are saying that his identity in the MCU is a mystery, others are…

This is the Iron Patriot, the leader of the Dark Avengers, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.(rebranded as H.A.M.M.E.R.) and also known to readers as Norman Osborne, a.k.a. Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis, the Green Goblin.

According to sciencefiction.com these are stills from Iron Man 3, featuring the Iron Patriot armor. Unfortunately, I highly doubt Norman Osborne will be appearing in Iron Man 3 or any of the MCU-films, as the rights to his character are included in the Spider-Man rights, which belong to Columbia Pictures, not Marvel Studios.

Regardless, the Iron Patriot was one of the more interesting turns they had taken with Norman Osborne, and the Dark Avengers was a great setup to the current Heroic Age in Marvel. I hope they don’t waste the potential of the image that the specific suit has.

THE IRON PATRIOT, WILL ALSO BE PART OF IRON MAN 3. New shots from the set of the third movie in the franchise, which is being filmed in North Carolina, appear to show exactly what kind of villains Iron Man will be facing. In this movie, Norman Osborn wears a full battlesuit patterned after the heroic images of Captain America and Iron Man. The battlesuit was cobbled together from StarkTech that had been confiscated from Tony Stark’s armory at Avengers Tower shortly after H.A.M.M.E.R.’s formation. :)
